 What Is NIL?

NIL, short for Name, Image, and Likeness, allows college athletes to earn compensation through marketing and promotional deals. Brands can leverage an athlete’s NIL for endorsements, sponsorships, and other opportunities.

On July 1, 2021, the NCAA legalized athlete compensation for NIL. Since then, states have enacted their own regulations, and universities have introduced policies and programs to support student-athletes.
