Utah NIL Laws
Currently, the state of Utah has no official legislation governing Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) rights for student-athletes. In the absence of state-specific laws, it is crucial for both athletic departments and student-athletes to maintain open and transparent communication regarding all NIL-related activities. This ensures compliance with NCAA regulations as well as any policies set forth by individual institutions. By staying informed and working collaboratively, student-athletes can maximize their NIL opportunities while avoiding potential violations that could impact their eligibility or standing within their programs.
In Utah, high school athletes are permitted to monetize their Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL), but they cannot wear school team insignia or use their team name in any NIL activity, according to the Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA).
